How to Help Everyone Learn

It can be hard to cater for mixed abilities, mixed interests and mixed learning methods. Some subjects will be split down into ability groups but if this is not the case for your subjects, you are going to have a much tougher job on your hands. Here are some ideas for making your teaching relevant to all:

• Provide written and visual learning materials. These will then appeal to people who learn in different ways.
• Give children a choice of activities. Of course, this will not always be possible like, for example, when you are practising exam questions. If you can though, give them options.
• Show them videos and play them sound clips. Some people learn by listening.
• Let them work with who they want to – as long as they can be trusted. Some children are shy and will prefer to work with people they already know and get on with.
