Students naturally compare teachers, and today there’s even review based websites where you can rate your teacher out of 10, and one common trend that always seems to pop up is ‘young vs. old’ and ‘inexperienced vs. experienced’.
A young teacher may perhaps be more enthusiastic, open to ideas and possibly more creative, while experienced teachers have all of the skills needed to handle a classroom, and have mastered various aspects of teaching. That said, some would argue that older or more experienced teachers are set in their ways, finding it difficult to keep up with the latest changes in education.
Younger teachers straight out of university may be more experienced with today’s technology, so the argument can go on and on. That said, every teacher is unique and the best teachers (whether they’re young or old) will demand attention, have excellent discipline skills and lots of patience!
